Hello, ya'll! Hope everyone is doing great as always! Wanted to tell you guys about two exciting things that have happened this week, first is the on Sunday we all went to a little town called Tepotzlan to go shopping at their little market. The town is BEAUTIFUL, and if you can you all need to google it or something and look at some pictures. I have some that I will upload later. It used to be named one of Mexico's most magical pueblos, but for some reason is not anymore. Anyway, got some really great gifts for some people (hehe) and had a great time walking around and enjoying the city! A lot of really cool stuff.

The second exciting thing is that I started my work in the vets office today! I think I will mostly be working in the little shop in front and the grooming of the animals rather than the vets stuff (whew) which I think is probably better for my little mind. The store is fantastic! They have clothes for animals (which is hilarious) and all kinds of fish, animal food, hamsters, mice, birds, and whenever they find an animal in the street or someone brings one in, they keep them in the store to sell to people. The vet is almost as crazy about animals as I am, so i think this will be a good working environment for me. She has TONS of animals, including a kinkaju, these crazy chicken things, a bulldog who she dresses in a different outfit everyday, tons of cats, some chiuauas, and more!

I love her! She is also really patient with me and my spanish, so thats good. Her daughter's boyfriend said to me in English, "You're spanish is not so good" and I almost said to him "Well, mister, neither is your english!", but that was the only backstep of the day. When I got there, I put my bike away and cleaned all the waterbowls for all the animals and swept the store. Then a collie come in that needed to be washed, so I spent the rest of my time chatting with my boss, Luz, and washing then drying the doggie. I really think this job is going to be really really good for me and really help me with all of the animal mistreatment I see here.

Hello, again! Hope all is well with everyone on this fine Friday afternoon (TGIF)! Everything is going great here! Weather is nice, cloudy and cool for the first time in three weeks, so I'm a pretty happy girl!

Ok, so my Mom told me that I should try and explain the whole "siesta" thing. So, at around noon or one, most everyone comes home to eat the biggest meal of the day during our lunch hour. This in my house is called "comida" and its when most of the family comes home from work or school and we all eat together. My mom spends most of her morning making the meal for comida and when I come home from school, I usually help her cook or set the table for everyone. After comida, people usually have an hour or two (usually until 3 or 4) to "siesta", or nap or relax. For me, siesta is a GOD send! It gives me a break from school for a few hours, some time to do some extra homework if I need to, and possibly even take a little nap! Its also a great time to spend with my family too, talking or watching TV together.

The Living Room

Classes are going great still! They are all really helpful and really interesting. Its amazing how much we don't know about a country that is literally our next door neighbor. The history of Mexico is full of interesting leaders, like Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa, and cruel dictators, like Porfirio Diaz. My grammer class is a great review about all the verb tenses and such, and the teacher Fabiola is so sweet! We spend a lot of the class just chatting about stuff. I also have a social movements class dedicated to the multiple social movements throughout Mexico's long history. One of the most interesting things I have learned in that class is about a huge student movement in the 70's that resulted in police coming in, firing their rifles, and killing multiple students. Think Kent State...times 100. Again, its crazy to think that this country is so close to ours, and something like that happened without 99% of American's knowing.

One of our classes here is a field study that we visit for six hours every week, and I start mine on Tuesday at a vets office really close to school! I will take pictures soon and put them on here, but take my word for it that it looks AMAZING! Its a little pet shop, a vets office, and a grooming salon all in one! More to come on that later...

First Transmission

Me and Eli, my new "mamá"


Well, here I am! Weather here is really nice today, cool because it rained all night and kind of cloudy so the sun isn't so harsh. Thought I would start a little blog thingy to keep everybody in the loop about whats going on in my life down here! I think I can show pictures too, so that will be cool to show everyone.

So, I guess to start off with, everything is going really well! My family couldn't be better here! They feed me well (i even have soy meat!) and really care about me already. Its like I'm another member of the family! I have my own room with internet and a tv, and tons of privacy which is great. I wasn't sure how much I was actually going to have with seven people living in the same house, but so far its all working our perfectly!


Classes are good, tough but really interesting. I'm taking social movements in Mexico, a history class, a grammar class, a mexican literature class, and a conversational class. On top of that, we have field studies that we do for six hours a week and starting on Tuesday, I'm going to work at a vet in town! I'm hoping that that will be really good, so lets keep our fingers crossed.
